Cats & Quilts - a match made in heaven... (except maybe those stubborn little clouds of fur that latch on to the fabric!)

Kitty Quote of the Day

I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little, they become its visible soul. - Jean Cocteau

Happy Scrappy!

There seems to be plenty happening here this month amongst lots of work hours but not much to show for it, doing some secret sewing, knitting a few rows of Christmas balls...... more about that in my 1 Christmas Item A Month post. I made 1 snuggly-bug block with a cute little unicorn,

and a pair of cute little bowls so I could play Christmas Swap angel to my good friend Shez.

I love that fabric I used on the outside of the bowls & the Paris Holiday used as wrapping is pretty cute too.

It's been hot here again so there have been a few naps & lots of yawns....

The cherry tomatoes are prolific....

And little Brun has done his best to try & kick start the broken laptop (when I just read this through I had typed 'lick' start - bet that wouldn't have worked either!). Even he couldn't work any magic so it is holidaying in the laptop workshop.

But most of all I want you all to....

If you haven't entered my giveaway, please leave a comment on the previous post here. Thanks to those who have & the new followers, look forward to the draw next Sunday. I have been playing with the auto draw programs but wonder if maybe I should go the old fashioned way & let the boys help? It only seems right.

Naked No More....

My mini-quilt frame that is!

It has sat forlornly waiting for my overdue Welcome mini quilt. Now I have finished my first little mini quilt for myself & I think it is a beauty.

I have shown the stitchery previously but I finished it off with a simple red border and final border & binding with a gorgeous blue & red fat quarter that Leanne gave me in a swap.

It is delightfully cute & simple, showing off the stitchery perfectly. At last I am displaying a mini quilt on my gorgeous cream frame.

I have since made another for the Spring mini swap. It is currently winging its way North so I can't show it yet but I so much want there to be time to make one for myself. I love it & hope my swap partner does too.

Over the weekend I also made two more Snugglybug blocks to go in to a quilt along with the other block mades around Australia for a 6 year old little man who is getting treatment in Hobart Hospital. I hope Spiderman helps him fight the big battle he & his family are facing.

I couldn't get Spiderman fabric in the quilting department of the three shops I tried. I was worried that I would get distracted & forget what I was looking for so I was wandering through the fabric aisles singing 'Spiderpig, Spiderpig, does what ever a spiderpig does'. I did get a couple of stares that made me think I wasn't singing as quietly as I thought. I don't know what Spiderman's theme song is but obviously I have watched a few episodes of The Simpsons in my past.

Given the circumstances I so much want to get the fabrics that these little people ask for & in the time alloted so this time went for curtain fabric in the spiderman blocks in the centre. I hope that works OK for the person putting the top together & the quilter. I'm sure the little spiderman fan will love it!

Machine Sewing - yes ME!

Hi all,

At last I have done a little machine sewing, only 3 blocks & I was motivated by a very good cause.

I did my usual roller cutting in the middle of the night - it just seems to be when I feel like cutting fabric....

During the daylight hours I chain pieced...

I drew very nice straight lines...

I did more roller cutting.....

More chain piecing & lots of pressing...

And my results are Block 1 made to be part of a quilt for a little 3 year old girl....

Block 2 which is part of a quilt for an 11 year old girl...

And my favourite, Block 3 for a 3 & half year old little boy....

These are part of the Snugglybug Rug Project that is run by Helen Stubbing of Hugs & Kisses in Hobart. Thanks to Helen & her bugettes from all around Australia, the Snugglybug Rug Project runs as a way to provide a snuggle quilt to each child diagnosed with either a terminal illness or a long term disease requiring treatment in Tasmania.

Go to the link above & have a look at past quilts we have made & the standard pattern used. If you too have a hour here & there to help these wonderful kids then please sign up. There is always new quilters needed & it is such a caring idea for brave kids fighting big battles.
